You’re Fired Monday, July 9, 2007

I fired ‘em.
After six months of unbelievable foul-ups, I finally fired the credit counseling service that was egregiously mishandling my money. They have screwed up my finances worse than I ever could have.
I hired Consumer Credit Counseling Service/Money Management International just after the mountains of medical bills began arriving after last years series of illnesses forced me into the health care system for an extended period of time. $92,000 worth of time, to be exact.
In the six months that I have been paying them a monthly fee of $40.00 (even though the counselor who set up my account told me specifically that the monthly fee was $24.00…this I found out only yesterday) plus the additional monthly deduction that was dispersed to my creditors, they have mismanaged nearly every aspect of my account with them.
- They have sent payments to doctors I have never heard of or visited.
- They have dropped accounts to whom I still owed money without my knowledge or consent.
- They have “accidentally” sent out duplicate checks, but mailed them to the wrong places.
- They have continued sending payments to accounts that were closed. Repeatedly.
- They have overdrafted my bank account and then argued that it was my mistake and not theirs.
- They have not added accounts that I repeatedly requested be added, resulting in that particular office not getting paid.
These are only some of the ways in which CCCS/MMI have screwed up and really created a mess out of what should have been an easy task. I mean come on! Isn’t helping people get out of debt what these morons are SUPPOSED to be professionals at?
I think not.
While the customer service was (almost) always satisfactory, the actual carrying out of their assigned and paid-for duties was horrendous.
So I fired them.
And good riddance. I’ll mismanage my money on my own, thank you very much. I don’t need to pay someone $40 a month to do it for me.
(P.S.–I’ll be in Wyoming all this week, and will try to post from there. See you soon!)

Good on you. It’s scary how the supposedly expert organisations we trust to handle our money tend to be the most disorganised and deceptive.
There are no words to describe how much I hate my bank at the moment.
Eek. What a mess. You should contact the B.B.B in their area and file a complaint.
Have fun in ….Wyoming?
Holy crap, Batman! I hope you’ll be able to straighten things out. Enjoy your time away in Wyoming. (If you make it to Cody, try the whitewater rafting down the Shoshone. My family rode the river way back in the ’70s and loved it.)
Good riddance is right… Am so sorry to hear all that happened to you. Things definitely will get better for you after this fiasco.
OBTW, Greg routed me to your place! Toodles.
